Prof. Michael James – Class of 1956 Lecture on March 5th

Dr. Michael R. James, Professor of Political Science, Associate Dean of Faculty for Social Sciences, and the 2018 recipient of the Class of 1956 Lectureship award, will present his lecture on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre, Elaine Langone Center. The title of his lecture is,”Citizenship and Responsibility for the Past: The Case of Spain’s Sephardim and Moriscos.” In his talk, Professor James will use philosophical models of responsibility for the past in order to evaluate the 2015 decision by the Spanish government to grant expedited citizenship to the descendants of all Sephardic Jews expelled in 1492 but not to the descendants of the Moriscos, Muslim converts to Catholicism who were expelled from Spain in 1607.
